Choosing a nanny

Nannies are professional in-home child care providers. Many nannies have formal training in child care and child development. Nannies usually take care of children from birth to age 10 or 12, tending to the child's early education, nutrition, health, and other needs. The nanny's responsibility to the family includes all aspects of caring for the children, from diapering and feeding to doing their laundry and maintaining their rooms.

A professional nanny can either live in the home with her employers or live out of the employers home. Depending on your schedule and family needs you can choose live in or live out nanny, and their rates will vary substantially. If, for example, your work schedule is unpredictable or includes out-of-town travel, or your child needs late-night bottle feedings or diaper changes, you can arrange to have a live in nanny. A live-in nanny should have her own bedroom and may have a separate entrance to the family home.
