Bariatric surgery information

Morbid obesity is a term applied to people who are more than two times their ideal weight. For people with morbid obesity, losing the weight and keeping it off is almost certainly the most important thing you can do for your health and longetivity.

Bariatric surgery is the only effective long-term treatment for morbid obesity and the performance of this surgery has increased dramatically over the years. Bariatric surgery, which involves surgically reducing stomach capacity, is indicated for dangerously obese patients who have not been able to reduce weight with medically supervised diets, exercise, and behavior modification. Bariatric surgery, however, is not the solution but an important precondition for successful management of morbid obesity.

Bariatric surgery encompasses a variety of surgeries, such as adjustable gastric banding, vertical banded gastroplasty, and sleeve gastrectomy. There are many Missouri bariatric services out there. Look for a surgeon who has not only performed hundreds, if not thousands of the bariatric procedures, but is also board certified in general surgery.
