How to obtain F-1 student visa

A citizen of a foreign country who wants to visit the U.S. should have immigrant or non-immigrant visa. A citizen of a foreign country who coming to the United States for the purpose of getting fulltime studies at an academic institution, they can use non-immigrant visa called F-1 Student Visa to enter the United States. The visa extends to persons enrolled at the elementary school level through the postgraduate and doctoral level of university education.

If you intend to apply for an F-1 Student Visa to study in the United States, you must be accepted by a school for a full time study course and the school you enter must have been approved by the USCIS. So will not be able to apply for an F- 1 Student Visa until you have enrolled in school. Duration of F-1 visa depends on the length of the school course.

  3. If you are applying for a visa more than 120 days before the start date or the date of registration, to be submitted on Form I-20, the Embassy or Consulate in possession of an application until you can give a visa.
