What you should know about Beta Glucan

Beta glucan is a type of polysaccharide that is extracted from the cell walls of baker's yeast, oat, wheat, barley fiber, cereal and some mushrooms. The primary purpose of beta glucan is to boost the immune system. Beta glucan triggers an immune response in the body creating a system of defense against viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic or potentially cancerous invaders. Studies also show that a diet high in polysaccharides containing beta glucan reduces the blood level of cholesterol and reduce your heart disease risk.

You can get beta glucan from various foods such as yeast, mushrooms, and oats. You can also find beta glucan as dietary supplement. As a dietary supplement, beta-glucan is available in liquid form as well as in capsules and tablets. The major advantage of taking beta-glucan supplements is that they are well absorbed and go to work rapidly.
Although side effect of beta glucan supplements are rare, occasionally an allergic reaction is reported.
