Physical activity in pregnancy

Physical activity is associated with many healthy benefits, including lower risk for diabetes, hypertension, obesity, depression, and much more. We should also encourage pregnant women to maintain physical activity throughout their pregnancies.

There are special benefits to being physically active during pregnancy. Maintaining physical activity during pregnancy is important for the health of both the pregnant woman and the fetus. The more active and fit you are during pregnancy, the easier it will be for you to adapt to your changing shape and weight gain. For most pregnant women I recommend 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day.

Women can safely take part in a number of physical activities throughout their pregnancy, such as walking, swimming, bicycling, jogging, aerobic, exercise class, and other. Swimming is an excellent way to stay physically and mentally fit during your pregnancy. Physical activity can help you stay comfortable during pregnancy and prepare you for a more comfortable childbirth.

  2. In a healthy, normal pregnancy, physical activity is encouraged.Healthy eating was often viewed as being of greater importance for the health of mother and baby than participation in physical activity.Physical activity does not increase your chances of low-birth weight, early delivery,or early pregnancy loss. It's also not likely that the composition or amount of your breast milk or your baby's growth will be affected by physical activity.
