Alcohol and pregnancy

Nicotine from cigarette smoking and alcohol from drinking during pregnancy have been shown can seriously harm your baby’s development. So it is really important to stop drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes during pregnancy and eat only healthy foods.

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can directly interfere with your baby's development. Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), mental, and physical birth defects is a result of alcohol consumption by the pregnant woman. Every pregnant woman should be encouraged to stop drinking any form of alcohol as early as possible during pregnancy.

Unfortunately, after learning that they're pregnant, 20% of women drinkers don't stop drinking. It is perhaps unrealistic to say that a pregnant addict should just stop drinking or smoking. Most addicts will require specific counseling and possible referral for specialist treatment. If you have difficulty cutting down alcohol consumption, talk to your doctor or midwife.

  5. Fetal alcohol syndrome can occur from even minute amounts of alcohol during pregnancy, and as an alcoholic you won't stop drinking just because you're pregnant.Personally I only had a few sips during holiday time because I would have felt major guilt if something were to happen to my child.
